Friday Favorite

Roderick and I am in love with this new salad. ( That's saying a lot for my non-veggie loving husband. He'll eat it but usually say "it's not my favorite.") It's a recipe we improvised and tweaked from an Apples of Gold recipe. The first time we made it to take to a friends house a couple of weeks ago. Let's just say the bowl was completely clean when we were done, almost to the point of being licked clean. That time we used a combination of red leaf, butternut, romaine, and spinach straight from a friend's garden that morning. We also used a freshly picked red onion from the garden that was the most potent I've ever cut. AND strawberries we hand picked! Can I say heavenly!!! Well, even without those the salad is WONDERFUL!
Salad:
approx. 1lb of favorite mixture of lettuce
1 pint fresh strawberries sliced
sliced almond or toasted pecan halves
Canned Mandarin oranges
Red onion
Salad Dressing:
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
1 cup vegetable oil ( I used olive oil -makes me feel healthier)
1 Tbsp poppy seeds
(This makes a LOT of dressing. I'm sure you could cut it down a little or maybe even in half.)

  4. Hi Laura,
I've been logged out of fb today and so I could not respond to your message on there--so sorry!

okay, for most of my photos I go into the html of my post and resize them to 520 ( width ) by 366 (height ). I load them from blogger in the large size--which blgoger will load them as 400 by 266, I believe......

so it makes them a tad larger, which is nice. Also, if I have pictures that are vertical rather than horizontal, I load them in the large size, and then go into the html and cut off 20pxls.... for example, if blogger loads them as 266 by 400, I resize them to 250 by 400. I do this because the width of my post space is right around 530--and if my pictures are wider than that, they get cut off, or I cannot fit two vertical ones side-by-side.

I'm sorry if all of this is confusing..... if it is, call me and we can have a bloggy conference by phone. Sometimes it is easiest just to walk through it as you are loading pictures--I don't mind a bit doing that if that is easier for you;-)

    happy Saturday to you!

Thanks so much for the tips. The tips worked great, formatting them was another story! That took several hours of frustration. It still isn't quite working, but I've decided its okay for now. Thanks again for the help!
